Director Dr Ali Bacher will, on behalf of the ICC Cricket World
Executive Director Dr Ali Bacher will, on behalf of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2003, donate 14 signed bats (1 per participating country) to the Nkosi's Haven on Tuesday March 11 at 14H30. The bats will be used during a fundraising auction at the Bearne's Auctioneers and Valuers of Fine Arts, in Exeter, UK. Nkosi's Haven and a UK-based Aids awareness organisation PASW have been nominated beneficiaries from the proceeds of the auction with an equal 50% share each. While the majority of items up for auction will probably be artworks, the cricket bats signed each by the players making the 14 participating nations, are expected to be a surprise, but well-sought after items. The bats will be auctioned on March 22 - a day before the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2003. Dr Bacher said that as part of cricket's contribution to help fight and help those affected by Aids, there had been no hesitation when approached for assistance. "We have no doubt in our minds that the money accruing from this auction will come in handy for Nkosi's Haven. Their good work is well documented and we were delighted to contribute in any way we could."
Nkosi's Haven is a home offering long term residential care to destitute
HIV/Aids infected mothers and children.
